Giving New Swedes a Voice in Integration Policy
Unique Report About the Integration in Sweden
Background
Integration is often discussed about people, but rarely with them. Belong (former Nya Kompisbyrån) set out to change that by placing the lived experiences of new Swedes at the center of the conversation. To support more effective and inclusive integration policy, they needed robust, representative data based on how people who have migrated to Sweden actually experience their integration into society. That’s where Perspetivo came in.
Together, Belong and Perspetivo launched Integrationspulsen - the first large-scale, quantitative, and representative study built entirely on the perspectives of foreign-born residents in Sweden.
Key Insights
8 in 10 respondents who regularly socialize with people of Swedish background feel part of Swedish society, compared to only 4 in 10 among those who do not.
Nearly 66% report receiving little or no support in finding employment, with women reporting a lack of support more often than men.

Method & Scope
Perspetivo conducted a nationwide quantitative study among people who migrated to Sweden between 1980 and 2024. The survey reached 966 respondents and to ensure accessibility and accuracy, the survey was available in Swedish, English, Arabic, Somali, and Farsi, allowing respondents to participate in the language they felt most comfortable with. The study achieved a 95% confidence level with a 3% margin of error, and was representative across gender and background, in line with national statistics.
Impact
Integrationspulsen provides decision-makers, organizations, and policymakers with a reliable, evidence-based foundation for shaping future integration initiatives. For the first time, integration policy can be informed directly by the voices of those who have lived through the process. The study demonstrates how representative data can move the conversation from speculation to precision, enabling more targeted, effective, and inclusive decisions. By ensuring that new Swedes are not only discussed, but genuinely heard, Integrationspulsen lays the groundwork for a more informed and impactful integration policy in Sweden.
